A conference titled “Financial Literacy, Family Budgeting, and Rational Financial Decisions in Inflationary Periods” was delivered on November 12, 2025 by Dr. Adem Böyükaslan, a faculty member of our department, to the 32nd Term students of the Police Vocational Training Center (POMEM) who are currently studying at the Afyonkarahisar Police Vocational Training Center Directorate.

During the conference, Dr. Adem Böyükaslan emphasized the importance of income management within the framework of personal finance for public employees and wage earners during inflationary periods. He highlighted how nominal income and real income diverge when considered in the context of inflation, and discussed key points that salaried employees should take into account when making saving, accumulation, and investment decisions in order to protect their income during periods of high inflation. In addition to personal finance topics, the conference also stressed the importance of effective income and expenditure management within the family structure, and presented methods and examples illustrating how intra-family communication can be maintained during the process of making and implementing financial decisions.

Furthermore, the conference addressed how the concepts of financial awareness, financial consciousness, financial knowledge, financial attitudes, and financial behavior shape financial literacy. The relationship between financial literacy and financial planning over specific time horizons was also explained through sample scenarios and real-life cases, taking into account individual and family psychology. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, following the presentation of informative anecdotes on household indebtedness and household saving rates in Türkiye, an overview of the current national and global status of financial literacy, and examples demonstrating how the characteristics of financial assets during inflationary periods influence investment decisions and potential returns.
