“Current Trends in the Finance Sector” Seminar Held
A seminar titled “Current Trends in the Finance Sector” was organized by the Department of International Trade and Finance of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS) at Afyon Kocatepe University (AKÜ).
The seminar, held at the Sabri Bektöre Conference Hall, was attended by FEAS Dean Prof. Dr. Gökhan Demirtaş, along with academic staff and students.
“Non-banking sectors are not widely preferred”
During the seminar, Mehmet Akif Eroğlu, Group President of Financial Affiliates at Fuzul Holding, delivered a presentation on “Savings Finance Companies.” Eroğlu stated that young university graduates do not tend to prefer non-banking sectors, noting that “There are tremendous career opportunities outside the banking sector. We represent one of these opportunities through Fuzulev. Fuzul Holding has been operating in the finance sector for over 30 years, beginning in the 1990s with Fuzulev. Today, Fuzulev enables individuals to own homes or vehicles through the savings finance system.”
“Those who use technology to understand tomorrow are one step ahead”
İsmail Sevinç, General Manager of Rubik Para, provided information on licensed payment institutions. Emphasizing that individuals who learn technology to understand the future are several steps ahead in terms of career development, Sevinç said, “If you want to engage in existing business areas, you need significant capital, or you must introduce something that does not yet exist in Türkiye. Instead, I left my entire career in the IT sector and transitioned into FinTech, starting from scratch.”
Sevinç explained that electronic money institutions are licensed entities regulated by the Central Bank and added, “Papara is a system that allows users to load money, make payments like a debit card, and also function as a mobile wallet. Papara was the first in this field and used its first-mover advantage effectively. However, there are currently 95 similar institutions operating in the market.”
“The insurance sector is one of the strongest fields in finance”
Eda Alptekin, Insurance Director at Fuzul Akva Insurance, pointed out that the insurance sector is often overlooked when discussing finance. Alptekin stated, “When finance is mentioned, banks and payment systems usually come to mind. However, in the United States, banks do not acquire insurance companies; insurance companies acquire banks. Despite being one of the strongest areas in the financial world, the insurance sector in Türkiye has a significant gap.”
Drawing attention to the limited perception of insurance as merely motor, traffic, or housing insurance, Alptekin continued, “One of the key elements sustaining the national economy is financial insurance. These insurance types secure receivables and provide letters of guarantee, yet they remain largely untapped in our country. This represents a major opportunity for you. Developing expertise in this field will not only contribute to the national economy but also enable you to become a highly sought-after professional.”
The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session.
